Comfort and Connection

Bringing communities together through the joy of music.

Music: joy and connections in retirement

There is nothing more powerful than music to create connections, rekindle long-lost memories, and evoke joy and delight. As older adults find themselves in a new environment, perhaps confronted by a loss of independence and the comfort of life’s former patterns, music can reduce anxiety, contribute to a sense of belonging and positively influence health outcomes.

A piano sitting at the centre of a shared space creates an environment where residents connect with each other and with visitors. Some may play, others may listen. As songs from earlier times spring to life, a singalong unfolds and the nostalgia of the past blends with the joy of the moment.

"Music plays a big part in bringing our residents together, and fighting social isolation."

The power of music for health and wellbeing

Music has the unique power to bring back memories, enhance mental health, and preserve a sense of identity during significant life transitions.

A recent Australian study found that playing and listening to music is linked to a 39% reduction in the risk of dementia for those over 70. It can increase cognitive reserve and develop stronger memory recall. For those experiencing dementia, even in its latter stages, familiar music helps them reconnect with and preserve their sense of self.

Roland pianos: infinitely expressive, incredibly practical

Roland digital pianos combine the familiarity and beauty of a traditional piano with reliability and flexibility made possible by today’s sophisticated technology.
From compact instruments to elegant, finely-crafted grand pianos, our pianos all feature piano hammer-actions, providing the familiar feel of a well-maintained acoustic piano.

Unlike traditional pianos, Roland digital pianos never need tuning, nor do they require costly maintenance. They’re not susceptible to temperature and humidity changes, either.
Whether it’s being played in a small room or large communal space, it’s easy to adjust the volume on a Roland piano, or even play silently through headphones. And the touch response can be adjusted to accommodate different levels of finger strength.

As an investment, a Roland piano is backed by a ten year warranty, and the assurance of personal support from our team of musicians and technicians.

The self-playing piano: Roland GP-9M

The Roland GP-9M is a superbly-crafted grand piano capable of rich, room-filling sound. But underneath its classic exterior, it features sophisticated technology that allows it to play on its own.

Including a repertoire of hundreds of pieces, it can play nostalgic favourites, fine classical pieces or upbeat pop and jazz. Its inbuilt performance library can be extended using easily-accessed MIDI music tracks, widening its repertoire further. It can even record performances for playing back later – capturing a resident’s favourite song or a visiting grandchild’s musical endeavours.

With moving keys that elevate the performance, and the option to connect a microphone, the GP-9M provides an ever-available pianist in residence, ready to entertain at morning teas, family days, and singalongs.

Roland: timeless instruments for every environment

Roland digital pianos are finely crafted instruments with a wide choice of elegant designs. Our timeless grand pianos are offered in classic polished ebony or polished white finishes. Our upright pianos offer elegant timber finishes including dark rosewood and light oak. And our portable instruments are available in light and dark designs to fit an array of decors.

While our grand pianos become a striking feature of a retirement community’s central space, they are still easy to move. For smaller areas, our upright pianos offer the full sound of the grands with a compact footprint. And our portable pianos are easy to shift from one room to another.
