Play music wirelessly through to the FP-90X’s built-in speakers

FP-30X Bluetooth

Use Bluetooth audio to stream music from your iOS or Android device to the FP-90X’s built-in speakers. Maybe you just want to jam along with your favourite track on Spotify, or play along with a You-Tube tutorial.  If you happen to be using wired headphones, the streamed audio will come through to your headphones combined with the FP-90x’s sound. That way you can practise and jam along in private.

This is especially useful if you’re a gigging musician. It makes learning new songs or transcribing songs so practical and easy!

One of the other excellent features of the FP-90X is the Microphone input with built in effects. That way, you can not only play along with streamed audio, but also sing through the piano’s powerful speakers. In fact the on-board speakers are powerful enough for use in a small venue even without external amplification, perfect for piano/vocal performances.

Roland Bluetooth Apps

The FP-90X is also able to communicate via Bluetooth MIDI to apps such as Roland’s Piano Every Day which is a free download for iOS or Android devices.

Because staying engaged and motivated is so important, Piano everyday has a built-in practise diary, backing rhythms for jamming, full remote control of the piano’s functions, and access to Sheet Music Direct, the world’s largest online sheet music store, all right in the app!

That way you can browse a vast selection of scores spanning every musical genre, from classical, pop, and jazz to movie soundtracks, holiday songs, and beyond. Because variety is important!

Piano Every Day

Sound engine

One of the amazing things about the FP-90X is it’s incredible and ultra-realistic piano sound engine.

Common industry practice with digital pianos is to use sampling technology or a recording of each note of a piano. Whilst sampling works well, it results in a limited range of expression, similar to when animation is composed of still images. Roland engineers wanted to improve on this technology, they wanted the sound to be authentic both in its quality, behaviour, and range of expression.

Pure Acoustic Modelling

At the heart of the FP-90X is the incredible Pure acoustic modelling engine.

What is Pure-acoustic modelling?

If you long for the detail and character of a great acoustic grand piano, the you’ll love the way the modelling engine reacts instantly to what and how you play. The more you play it, the more you listen to it, it becomes clearer just how immersive and true to life the behaviour of the sound is. This is the pinnacle of Roland’s Piano sound technology and this is the first time it has been available in a portable piano.

Key Action

The FP-90X also uses the superb PHA-50 key mechanism featuring a hybrid structure including wooden inserts and stabilising pins for reduced sideways motion of the keys. Coupled with the excellent non-slip ivory key surfaces, this action lets you get the most out of the FP-90X’s incredible sounds.

Piano Designer

If you are all about creating your own unique and personal sound, then you will love the free Piano Designer app for Android & iOS.

Piano Designer using bluetooth technology

Piano designer also connects via Bluetooth MIDI and allows you to fine tune your FP-90X directly from your smart device. Adjust string and damper resonance settings as well as key-off resonance. You can even voice and tune individual notes on the piano.

There is so much scope for personalising your sound in the Pure-acoustic sound engine on the FP-90X, Piano designer gives you a unique and graphical way of delving deep into the settings.

Save your favourite settings directly into the app for future use. You can then transfer them directly to your FP-90X at any time via the Bluetooth connection.

Teaching apps

If you’re thinking of doing some online lessons, then there’s a lot to choose from these days. With the ability to stream the audio from these apps directly to your FP-90X’s speakers you’ll be playing in no time!

Here are some popular apps that are worth checking out:
